Wilfred Ndidi’s Father Dies in Tragic Accident

Wilfred Ndidi, the captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a tragic road accident. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, was involved in an accident in Umunede, Delta State. He was rushed to a hospital in Agbor but was confirmed dead.

Ndidi’s club, Besiktas, has since expressed its sorrow over the tragic event. A statement released via their official X account read: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident. May Allah grant mercy to the deceased; we extend our condolences to Wilfred, his family, and loved ones.”

The news has shocked many, as Wilfred Ndidi had recently captained Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. During the tournament, Ndidi scored his first international goal and celebrated by referencing his father and his admiration for former Nigeria captain Kanu Nwankwo. “The celebration came from my dad because he was always talking about Kanu Nwankwo,” Ndidi explained. “I just thought about my dad, and I said I was going to do it for him.”
