Refuse heap persists on Idimu–Ejigbo Road as residents question waste response

Residents and business owners along Idimu–Ejigbo Road in Lagos are raising fresh concerns over a large refuse heap occupying part of the road median around the Dorcas and Silva Estate area.

A PUNCH reporter who visited the area observed waste stretching for about 150 metres along the median, with some refuse spilling onto parts of the road.

Residents say the heap has remained there for about six months.

That duration is based on resident accounts and has not been independently audited by IDNN.

Earlier evacuation did not clear entire stretch, residents say

Residents say an earlier round of waste evacuation cleared some sections around Idimu Bus Stop and OPC Junction but did not fully clear the Dorcas and Silva Estate stretch.

Some traders said that left the impression that the wider corridor had been cleared while refuse remained in their area.

That account has not yet been answered by the Lagos Waste Management Authority.

Odour and obstruction affect daily activity

People living and trading around the affected stretch say the refuse produces strong odours and makes movement more difficult for motorists and pedestrians.

Some business owners also say customers avoid staying near the heap.

The original report says calls and WhatsApp messages sent to LAWMA Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin were unanswered before publication.

LAWMA has separately discussed broader waste-management challenges and reforms in Lagos.
