Security Guard Killed During Ribah Attacks, Kebbi Police Say

Police say a 47-year-old guard was fatally struck during an exchange of gunfire in Ribah on October 30. Community reports also describe a woman’s abduction.

A security guard was killed during successive attacks by suspected bandits in Ribah, Kebbi State, on October 30, according to the state police command.

Daily Post reported that police identified the deceased as Hassan Boder, 47, who worked at a filling station along the Ribah–Kanya Road. The command said he was fatally struck by a bullet during an exchange of gunfire. The account did not establish who fired the fatal shot.

Police Describe Two Attacks

According to the police account, the first incident occurred at about 7:25pm when armed men attempted to block Rambo Junction along the Ribah–Dirin Daji Road.

A joint team of police officers, military personnel and local vigilantes engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat.

Police said the gunmen later regrouped and returned, firing from different directions within the community.

The command said security personnel repelled the second assault and intensified patrols to prevent further attacks and pursue those responsible.

Woman’s Abduction Reported Separately

PUNCH reported that community accounts also described the abduction of a woman during the attack.

That claim was separate from the police spokesperson’s confirmation of the guard’s death. IDNN has not independently confirmed the reported abduction or established the woman’s subsequent whereabouts.

Military Reports Rescues in Kebbi

Separately, the military reported rescuing 11 people during two operations on October 30 and 31.

According to an account published by PUNCH, troops rescued seven people after responding to an attempted invasion of Ribah. Four others were rescued during a separate operation around Wasagu.

The military said the seven were reunited with their families, while the four rescued around Wasagu were handed over to their community head.

The accounts reviewed do not identify the reportedly abducted woman as one of those rescued. Her subsequent status remains unconfirmed.

The police and military accounts have not been independently verified by IDNN. An updated casualty assessment was not available in the reports reviewed.
