Ogun Police Say Suspected Robber Killed, Two Vehicles Recovered in Ota

The Ogun State Police Command says its officers killed a suspected robber in Ota during what the command described as an exchange of gunfire while responding to a robbery report.

Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said operatives of the Onipanu Division, under the Ota Area Command, responded to a resident’s distress call in Ijaba, Iyesi, at about 1:45am on November 1.

According to the command, the suspects opened fire when officers approached, prompting an exchange of gunfire in which one suspect was killed. Police said other suspects fled and might have sustained gunshot injuries.

Vehicles and Suspected Stolen Items Recovered

Police said a search after the encounter led to the recovery of a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, alongside suspected stolen property including laptops, mobile phones, a television and a games console. The command also reported recovering a firearm and ammunition.

Ownership Investigation Continues

Babaseyi said investigators were working to establish ownership of the vehicles and other recovered property, and whether the items were connected to other reported crimes.

He said efforts were also continuing to locate the suspects who fled.

The accounts reviewed were based on the police statement and did not include independent eyewitness testimony about the shooting.
