Ekiti Begins Issuing Appointment Letters to 1,522 Junior Health Workers

The appointments cover laboratory assistants, health assistants and health attendants. The agency’s announced letter-collection schedule runs until November 3.

The Ekiti State Government has begun issuing appointment letters to 1,522 newly recruited junior healthcare workers to support services at primary healthcare centres.

PUNCH reported that Dr Funke Ogunbunmi, chairman of the Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency, announced the exercise in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on November 1.

The appointments cover Laboratory Assistants, Health Assistants and Health Attendants. Ogunbunmi said the recruitment was intended to address staffing shortages and strengthen frontline services.

Collection Runs Until November 3

According to the announced schedule, collection began October 28 at the agency’s registry in Ado Ekiti and is due to end Tuesday, November 3.

The agency said candidates were being attended to in batches of 300 daily. Successful applicants were directed to arrive from 10am on their designated dates with original credentials.

Appointment letters would be released only after document verification. The collection exercise is for candidates already selected.

Recruitment Targets PHC Staffing Gaps

Ogunbunmi credited Governor Biodun Oyebanji with approving the recruitment and said additional personnel would improve the operational capacity of primary healthcare facilities.

The categories announced are junior support roles. The announcement concerns appointment letters; it does not confirm that all recruits have been posted to facilities or resumed duty.

Deployment Details Not Specified

The accounts reviewed did not provide a breakdown of recruits by category, their facility postings or resumption dates. The number who had completed verification and collected letters was also not established.

Those details will show where the additional workers will serve and when communities can expect them to join existing PHC teams.
