Dangote Endorses Tinubu’s Economic Reforms: “Nigerians Will Rush to Thank You

Dangote: “Nigerians Will Rush to Thank You

By: IDNN Business & Development Desk

ABUJA — Billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote has offered full-throated support for the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu, declaring that the Nigerian public would eventually recognize the value of his policies and “rush to Aso Rock to thank him.”

The endorsement was delivered during the commissioning of the $2.2 billion African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja, where Dangote joined government officials and international investors to inaugurate West Africa’s most ambitious healthcare project to date.

“I know that Nigerians are going through a very tough time,” Dangote said.
“But eventually, we will all go to Aso Rock and thank President Tinubu for the foundation he is laying.”

THE POWER OF CREDIBILITY

Dangote’s remarks come at a time when Tinubu’s administration is facing mounting criticism over economic hardship, labour unrest, and inflationary pressure caused by fuel subsidy removal and currency reforms.

As Africa’s wealthiest man and head of the Dangote Group, the business magnate’s support is viewed as a major confidence boost for Tinubu’s economic team, which has faced public pressure over cost-of-living challenges.

 REFORMS AT STAKE

Tinubu’s administration has undertaken sweeping changes, including:

  • Fuel subsidy removal

  • Floating of the naira

  • Push for local refining through the Dangote Refinery

  • Banking and trade liberalization

  • Tightening of fiscal controls

While these moves have sparked unrest, the government argues they are critical to breaking Nigeria’s debt trap and restoring investor confidence.

DANGOTE’S PITCH: LONG-TERM GAIN > SHORT-TERM PAIN

Dangote noted that while reforms are painful in the short term, they position Nigeria for macroeconomic stability, reduced import dependency, and industrial self-sufficiency.

“With what the President has started, I am confident that the Nigerian economy will be among Africa’s top three performing economies within five years,” he added.

 A POLITICAL SIGNAL?

Analysts believe Dangote’s public support carries significant weight — especially with international investors and domestic policy watchers — and may signal greater alignment between the business elite and Tinubu’s vision.

His endorsement also coincides with renewed momentum on key infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and gas processing corridors supported by the private sector.

 BUSINESS & GOVERNANCE ALIGNMENT CRUCIAL

Experts note that Nigeria’s ability to transition from a consumer economy to a productive one depends on durable public-private partnerships.

With the AMCE project, Dangote and Afreximbank have set a new benchmark for transformative investment, and his remarks suggest sustained cooperation with the federal government on future economic priorities.
