Adamawa APC, Atiku Trade Blame Over Wagga Mongoro Terror Attack

Byline: Politics Desk

A deadly insurgent raid on Wagga Mongoro, Adamawa State, has left grieving families — and ignited political fire.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned the killings, blaming government failure to secure lives. But Adamawa’s APC chapter blasted his remarks as “a hollow, insensitive ploy to politicise tragedy.”

Spokesman Mohammed Abdullahi accused Atiku of misrepresenting casualties and exploiting grief for political gain. APC linked today’s insecurity to policies under Atiku’s PDP government in the 2000s.

A Community Under Siege

The attack rekindled memories of Madagali’s vulnerability, near Sambisa Forest. Despite improved security in Adamawa, raids continue intermittently. Security reports indicate families fled en masse, with homes razed.

Politics on Fresh Graves

Atiku’s camp insists his intervention was solidarity, not politics. Analysts say the spat reflects Nigeria’s polarisation: “Every tragedy becomes a battleground,” notes security scholar Kabiru Adamu.

What Next for Adamawa’s Security?

The APC says federal and state governments are stabilising the area. But locals remain sceptical, recalling repeated cycles of attack and neglect. Whether politics can give way to concrete security reforms remains uncertain.
