Anambra Stolen Car Recovery: Police Report Two Arrests

Anambra Police Say Two Arrested After Recovery of Retired UNN Professor’s Car

Anambra police say they arrested two men and recovered a car reportedly stolen from a retired University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) professor.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said an alert from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) led to the arrests and recovery of the blue Toyota Camry.

Officers arrested Umeh Thankgod, 32, and Sunday Ozor, 24, on October 28 at the Old Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka, Obosi, according to a police statement released on November 1.

FRSC Registration Check Raised Alert

Ikenga said FRSC personnel in Awka noticed irregularities while checking the car’s registration documents and alerted police.

State Intelligence Department officers acted on the information, arresting the two men and recovering the vehicle in Obosi. The statement did not explain what was wrong with the documents.

Police said the car had been reported stolen on September 29 from the home of a 90-year-old retired UNN professor in Nsukka, Enugu State.

The command said officers contacted the owner, who identified the recovered car as his property.

Police Seek Gateman

Ikenga said the owner alleged that his gateman, identified as Bassey Etim, helped with the theft.

Police said they were seeking Etim as investigations continued.

The statement did not explain the alleged roles of the two arrested men, announce charges or include responses from the named individuals.
