A male passenger has died after jumping from a moving commercial bus that later crashed into a median pole at Ogunlana Junction, inward Ojuelegba, Lagos, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
LASTMA said the crash involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LND 130 XR and occurred in the Surulere area.
The agency said preliminary reports indicated that the driver had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol and was driving recklessly shortly before the crash.
That allegation has not been independently established by IDNN.
According to LASTMA, motorists travelling behind the bus reportedly slowed down and tried to avoid the vehicle as it moved erratically.
The agency said the male passenger then jumped from the moving bus and sustained severe injuries when he hit the ground.
LASTMA said he later died from those injuries.
Emergency agencies respond
LASTMA personnel carrying out traffic surveillance in the area responded after sighting the crash, the agency said.
According to the statement, officers secured the scene, introduced emergency traffic-management measures and removed the damaged vehicle from the carriageway to reduce the risk of another collision.
Personnel from Area C Police Division provided security at the scene, while officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency evacuated the deceased passenger, LASTMA said.
The account reviewed by IDNN does not establish whether the driver has been arrested, subjected to an alcohol test or charged with any offence.
Those distinctions matter because a preliminary allegation of intoxication is not the same as a confirmed test result or criminal finding.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki used the incident to warn motorists against reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
But the immediate accountability questions in this case remain specific.
Was the driver tested for alcohol?
What caused the bus to lose control?
Has police opened a formal investigation?
And what legal status, if any, now applies to the driver?
Until those questions are answered, the strongest established facts remain that LASTMA reported a passenger died after jumping from the moving bus, the bus subsequently crashed, and multiple Lagos emergency agencies responded to the scene.
