Labour Party Slams Tinubu Over APC Gombe Crisis, Calls It ‘Political Karma’

ABUJA, NIGERIA — June 18, 2025 | By IDNN Political Desk

The Labour Party (LP) has taken a scathing jab at President Bola Tinubu over the chaos that rocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in Gombe, calling it “political karma in motion.”

The party’s statement followed a disorderly North-East APC summit where tensions boiled over after the vice president, Kashim Shettima, was snubbed in a public endorsement of Tinubu for 2027.

Senator Nenadi Usman, Acting Chair of the LP National Caretaker Committee, declared in a fiery statement that the APC’s internal brawl was a poetic unraveling of a party that just days earlier ridiculed the disunity of others.

“A president who celebrates a weak opposition is, by extension, cheering the decline of democracy,”

“Just last week, President Tinubu stood before lawmakers boasting that the opposition was in disarray. Now his party is cracking apart on live television,” she said.

“Karma on Full Display”

Usman framed the incident as a moment of reckoning for the ruling party, accusing Tinubu of celebrating the erosion of democracy by mocking political rivals.

“A president who celebrates a weak opposition is, by extension, cheering the decline of democracy,” she argued.

She pointed out that the APC’s open attempt to marginalize Shettima in his home region highlights an authoritarian drift within the party, where loyalty and dignity are easily discarded.

“Their internal war is not just a power struggle—it’s a reflection of institutional decay,” Usman warned.

No Joy in the Collapse

While declaring no satisfaction in the APC’s turmoil, Usman said the episode should serve as a national wake-up call.

“This is not a time for gloating. It’s a time for Nigerians to reflect. If they can humiliate their own Vice President, imagine what they’ll do to democracy itself,” she added.

The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles, saying Nigeria’s future rests on protecting dissent and restoring integrity in public office.
