Motorcycle rider reportedly shot dead near YABATECH in Lagos

Motorcycle rider reportedly shot dead near YABATECH; police confirmation remains unclear

An unidentified motorcycle rider was reportedly shot dead near the back gate of Yaba College of Technology in Lagos on Saturday evening, in an incident whose motive and full circumstances remain unclear.

Published reporting said the rider was attacked while travelling through the area, with a community source alleging that two masked men carried out the shooting before fleeing.

The number and description of the attackers have not been independently verified.

The victim’s identity had also not been established in the material reviewed by IDNN.

Police position remains incomplete

An unnamed police source was quoted as saying investigators were working to establish what happened and identify those responsible.

However, Lagos State Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi was also quoted as saying she was not aware of the incident when contacted.

That leaves the official record incomplete: the fatal shooting has been reported, but a full on-record confirmation from the Lagos State Police Command had not been established at the time of review.

Cult link remains unconfirmed

The unnamed police source also suggested there were indications that the attack could be linked to cult activity.

That claim remains unverified.

IDNN has not independently established the motive for the reported shooting, the identities of the attackers or any connection to a cult group.

The incident should therefore be treated as a reported fatal shooting under investigation, rather than as a confirmed cult killing.

Key questions remain

The next test is whether Lagos police formally confirm the incident, identify the victim and establish what led to the attack.

Until then, the strongest safe account remains limited: a motorcycle rider was reportedly shot near YABATECH, the victim has not been publicly identified in the available reporting, and the motive and full circumstances remain unresolved.
