Osun Sets Up Joint Security Task Force, Orders 24-Hour Alert

The Osun State Government has approved a joint security task force and directed security agencies to maintain a 24-hour alert following recent security warnings.

The decision followed a State Security Council meeting convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke and presided over by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi.

The meeting brought together senior security officials as the state reviewed measures aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering, coordination and response.

The government said the task force would bring security agencies together under a coordinated structure and pledged to provide logistics needed for its operations.

Security agencies were also directed to maintain heightened vigilance, while residents were urged to report suspicious activity.

Authorities specifically advised stronger security around schools, churches, mosques and other public gathering places.

Warning, Not Confirmed Attack

The measures follow earlier security alerts in the state.

Recent reports said security officials had briefed religious leaders about intelligence concerning possible threats to worship centres and other public gathering points, prompting calls for institutions to strengthen preventive measures.

But authorities have not publicly established that an attack is underway.

The security warning therefore remains an alert requiring vigilance, not confirmation of an active terrorist incident.

What Changes for Residents

The immediate consequence is a heightened security posture around schools, worship centres and other gathering points.

Residents, particularly those in vulnerable or border communities, have been asked to provide credible information about suspicious activity while security agencies increase surveillance and readiness.

For the state government, the next accountability test is whether the newly approved task force becomes operational quickly, which agencies participate, and whether promised logistics and coordination translate into stronger public protection.

The story remains developing.
