Air France Flight Delayed in Abuja Due to Mechanical Fault

Passengers on an Air France flight bound for Houston, Texas, experienced significant delays at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The flight, initially scheduled for 6:50 PM on Sunday, was delayed until 11:15 PM due to a mechanical issue.

Passengers endured nearly five hours of waiting before being informed of the mechanical problem and instructed to disembark. Many passengers reported discomfort even before boarding, as the airport’s departure hall lacked a functional cooling system. Once on the plane, the situation did not improve, with the aircraft’s cooling system also failing.

Flight attendants attempted to alleviate the discomfort by distributing bottles of cold water and repeatedly announcing that takeoff would occur in 30 minutes, without providing any explanation for the delay. At around 11:15 PM, the captain announced the mechanical issue and the cancellation of the flight.

Frustrated passengers were asked to disembark and were later accommodated in hotels in Abuja’s city center. Air France apologized for the incident and promised to airlift the passengers by 3 PM on Monday.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is aware of the situation and will investigate for appropriate actions. AIT News reached out to Air France for a comment but received no response. However, the airline’s virtual assistant on WhatsApp expressed regret for the delay and requested booking details to address the issue.

In June 2024, a similar incident occurred when Nigerians on an Air France flight from Paris to Abuja were stranded in Chad due to a flight disruption.
