🌧️ Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms, and Flood Alerts: NiMet Issues New 3-Day Weather Outlook

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh three-day weather outlook predicting heavy rains, thunderstorms, and flash floods across multiple states from Monday to Wednesday. The advisory warns residents in high-risk areas to take preventive measures to safeguard lives and property.
In a bulletin released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet forecasted significant rainfall for northern, central, and southern regions, with flood-prone areas particularly at risk.
Northern Region
On Monday morning, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States. By afternoon and evening, widespread thunderstorms and heavier showers will cover the entire northern belt.
For Tuesday and Wednesday, the northern states — including Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and others — will continue to experience morning and afternoon storms, with Adamawa, Taraba, and Bauchi flagged for high flood potential.
🌦️ Central Region
The central zone — including Benue, FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa — will see light morning rain on Monday, intensifying into the afternoon across Kwara, Plateau, and surrounding states. The pattern is expected to persist into midweek, with intermittent showers and localized flooding possible.

Southern states such as Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa will start Monday with cloudy skies and light rains. By afternoon, rainfall intensity will increase, with Oyo, Ogun, Edo, and Delta placed on flood alert.
By midweek, NiMet warns of heightened flood risk for Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, especially in low-lying areas.
🚨 Public Safety Advisory
NiMet urges residents to avoid driving during heavy downpours, secure loose outdoor objects, and stay clear of tall trees during storms. Communities in high-risk zones are advised to activate emergency response systems.
The agency also reminded airline operators to obtain localized weather briefings to ensure safe flight operations.
“Ensure warm clothing for vulnerable persons due to low night-time temperatures and disconnect electrical appliances to prevent damage from lightning or power surges,” the advisory read.
