FRSC says 18 people were involved in the Kutigi–Bida Road collision, with four escaping unhurt.
Seven people were killed and seven others injured in a road crash along the Kutigi–Bida Road in Niger State on Sunday, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. at Shebe Village and involved a Mazda vehicle travelling from Minna towards Mokwa and a Toyota Sienna travelling from Lagos towards Minna.
Niger State FRSC Sector Commander Aishat Saadu said 18 people were involved, with seven killed, seven injured and four escaping without injury.
Earlier reports based on eyewitness accounts had put the death toll at nine before the road-safety agency issued its casualty figures.
FRSC later gave a different official casualty breakdown of seven dead, seven injured and four unhurt.
Reporting from the scene said the vehicles collided around a blind corner, but no final FRSC finding establishing the precise cause of the crash has been identified.
The injured victims required medical attention, while authorities were also reported to be seeking relatives of a teenage survivor from the Mazda.
For families affected by the crash, the immediate toll is seven lives lost and seven people injured.
The next question is whether road-safety investigators will establish what caused the collision and whether any preventable factor contributed.
A final investigation finding and an updated condition of the injured had not been established in the material reviewed.
