AEDC Assures Customers of Power Restoration by February 23 Amid Ongoing Outages

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has reassured its customers in Abuja and surrounding franchise areas, promising to restore adequate power supply within the next 11 days. This assurance comes after widespread outages caused by vandalism and technical faults in its transmission infrastructure.

In a recent post on its X handle, AEDC explained that efforts are in full swing to repair the underground transmission line near Millennium Park in Abuja, which was damaged by vandals. The company further emphasized that the restoration work is on schedule, with completion expected by February 23, 2025.

To optimize the available supply, AEDC also noted that load management will be implemented. Moreover, the company confirmed that it is working closely with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to resolve the situation swiftly.

The ongoing disruptions have primarily affected several districts, including Wuye, Utako, Jabi, Mabushi, Katampe, Life Camp, Wuse Zones 1-7, Wuse 2, Maitama, and parts of the Central Business District. These areas have experienced continuous outages due to the vandalization of the 132kV Katampe – Central Area underground transmission cable.

In addition, AEDC highlighted that TCN engineers are working diligently around the clock to repair and replace the damaged transmission line. According to the company, TCN has committed to completing the repairs and fully restoring power supply to the Central Area Transmission Substation (AT5) by February 23.

Furthermore, the disruptions, which began on January 1, 2025, have significantly impacted power supply to around 188 locations within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which are under AEDC’s franchise. Over the past two months, various areas and businesses have faced blackouts, caused by both technical faults and the vandalism of several feeders.

In conclusion, AEDC expressed its regret over the inconvenience caused by the ongoing outages. The company reassured its customers that it is making every effort to restore normal services as quickly as possible.
