2026 UTME Registration: Fees, Dates, Guidelines

Registration for the 2026 UTME registration has officially commenced following the release of guidelines by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), setting out the requirements, fees and timelines for candidates across the country.

The UTME is a mandatory examination for candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Key registration dates

According to JAMB, the registration window opens in early 2026 and will run for several weeks, allowing candidates sufficient time to complete the process at accredited centres nationwide. The board advised candidates to adhere strictly to announced deadlines to avoid disqualification.

JAMB is expected to publish the exact closing date and examination schedule through official channels, including its website and approved media platforms.

Approved fees and payment process

The cost of registration includes the UTME application fee, reading text and service charges. Candidates are required to generate a profile code and make payment through authorised channels before completing registration at accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

JAMB cautioned candidates against making payments through unauthorised agents, warning that such transactions may invalidate registration.

Registration guidelines

Candidates are required to create a JAMB profile using their National Identification Number (NIN), which is mandatory for participation. Biometric capture, including fingerprints and facial image, will be conducted at CBT centres to ensure examination integrity.

JAMB also advised candidates to verify personal details carefully during registration, as corrections after submission may attract additional charges.

Who is eligible

Candidates who have completed secondary school or are awaiting results are eligible to register, subject to meeting admission requirements set by their chosen institutions.

The board reiterated that admission into tertiary institutions will be based on UTME performance, post-UTME screening and compliance with institutional criteria.

Advisory to candidates

JAMB urged candidates and parents to rely only on official information and accredited centres, stressing that adherence to guidelines would ensure a smooth registration process and reduce complaints.

Further updates on the 2026 UTME registration process are expected as the examination body releases additional details.
