President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Tuesday evening, ending a Paris and London leave earlier than scheduled.

Unexpected Return
The President’s Airbus A330 touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 6:50 pm local time. Tinubu had departed Nigeria on September 4 for a 10-day rest and official engagements in Europe but arrived back two days ahead of plan.
Officials did not explain why the leave was cut short. The timing coincides with the end of a six-month state of emergency in oil-rich Rivers State, which expires this Thursday.
Frequent Overseas Trips
Tinubu, 73, has made 15 foreign trips since January 2025, often combining diplomatic meetings with medical checks or periods of rest. His last known holiday was in April, when he spent about 14 working days in Paris and London.

The frequency of his foreign travel has drawn criticism from opposition voices, though aides argue such trips are standard for a leader managing reforms and diplomacy.
Political Timing and Signals
Analysts note that the President’s early return could reflect mounting political and security pressures at home, particularly in Rivers State. The state has remained tense under emergency rule, imposed after violence linked to political rivalries.
Tinubu’s presence in Abuja ahead of the expiry may be intended to project control and reassure stakeholders as critical decisions loom.
With political tensions simmering in Rivers and reforms under scrutiny, Tinubu’s shortened leave has added fresh intrigue to Nigeria’s political calendar.
