Nigerian Army Reshuffle: New GOCs, Provost Marshall, and CMI Appointed

By IDNN Defence & Security Desk

The Nigerian Army reshuffle has brought significant changes to its high command, with new appointments across divisions, headquarters directorates, and specialist units.

Effective between August 19 and 25, 2025, the changes are designed to sharpen command efficiency and reinforce the Army’s ability to respond to complex threats.

In the new postings:

  • Major General Chinedu Nnebeife takes over as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Ibadan.

  • Major General A.S.K. Wase becomes GOC 1 Division, Kaduna.

  • Major General M.O. Erebelu is the new Provost Marshall.

  • Major General A.A. Idris has been appointed Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI).

  • Major General A.A. Adeyinka is now Chief of Logistics at Army Headquarters.

  • Major General Adetoba assumes command of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics Management (NACOLM).

  • Major General J.E. Osifo continues as DG, Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA).

  • Major General Ugiagbe, a former CMI, becomes Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (CASE).

Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede endorsed the reshuffle, which military analysts view as both a strategic rotation and a recalibration of Nigeria’s defence priorities.

The Nigerian Army reshuffle signals fresh momentum for operations against insurgency, terrorism, cyber threats, and cross-border instability. Analysts say the move reflects an effort to integrate intelligence, logistics, and cyber defence capabilities into one coordinated structure.

“This is about refreshing command, but it is also a signal to adversaries that the Army is adapting quickly,” one senior defence source told IDNN.
