The FCT Police Command says the reported attack involving a serving military officer, identified in circulating reports as Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, did not occur within the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement dated 28 July 2026 and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the police said investigations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, found that the incident occurred in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The clarification follows publications that had placed the alleged incident within the FCT.
Police dispute FCT location
The Command said it was aware of reports circulating on social media alleging that the officer was attacked by suspected kidnappers within the Federal Capital Territory.
While acknowledging the gravity of the reported incident, the Command stated that the incident did not occur within its jurisdiction.
According to the police statement, investigations revealed that the incident occurred in Badna, New Karu LGA of Nasarawa State, not in the FCT as earlier portrayed in some reports.
Border communities placed under watch
The FCT Police Command also said the CP had ordered the immediate deployment of operational and intelligence assets to border communities adjoining the FCT with Nasarawa State.
The Command said the deployment was aimed at preventing criminal elements from infiltrating the Federal Capital Territory or carrying out criminal activity within the capital.
That means the correction is not only about location. It is also a public-safety update: FCT Police reject the Abuja frame, place the incident in neighbouring Nasarawa, and say border communities are now under security watch.
Police warn against unverified reports
The Command condemned what it described as false and unverified publications, saying such reports can misinform the public, heighten anxiety and undermine public confidence.
It urged media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify security-related information with appropriate authorities before publication or dissemination.
Residents were also advised to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, and to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
Update note
This story has been updated after the FCT Police Command said reports placing the incident within the FCT were false and that its investigation placed the incident in Badna, New Karu LGA, Nasarawa State.
Earlier versions and circulating reports had framed the incident as Abuja/FCT. IDNN is correcting that location frame based on the FCT Police clarification, while continuing to hold motive, suspects, arrests and injury details unless confirmed by competent authorities.
