CAF Launches $1.6M Impact Program to Boost African Football Development

By IDNN African Football  Desk

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a game-changing financial initiative titled CAF Impact, designed to fortify the operational and developmental capacity of its Member Associations (MAs) — including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Launched during CAF’s Executive Committee meeting on April 26, the new scheme will see each member federation receive up to $1.6 million, marking a substantial 60% increase compared to the previous cycle of development funding.

In addition to the base grants, federations that meet specified targets will be eligible for performance-based bonuses of up to $500,000, making the total possible allocation over $2 million per association.

CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba stated that the program aims to deepen financial transparency, improve results-based investments, and enforce rigorous compliance across all affiliated bodies.

“CAF and its President are committed to ensuring that every dollar invested contributes directly to the growth of African football,” Mosengo-Omba emphasized.
“With CAF Impact, we are building systems that reward progress and protect integrity.”

 What Makes CAF Impact Different?

Unlike previous grant structures, CAF Impact is anchored in a regulatory framework that mandates:

  • Independent financial audits

  • Detailed project documentation

  • Usage reporting linked to performance metrics

A significant feature of the new program is its strong emphasis on youth and women’s football, with a mandatory 50% of the grants earmarked for these categories.

CAF noted:

“We’re shaping the future of African football — creating opportunity in every region, for every girl and boy, every coach, every dream.”

This boost comes as the Nigerian football system continues to seek robust reforms and sustainable funding pathways for its multiple national teams, from the Super Falcons to youth-level squads and domestic coaching ecosystems.
