Ronaldo hits 140 goals as Portugal crush Armenia 5–0 in World Cup qualifier

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to rewrite international football history after netting his 139th and 140th goals in Portugal’s 5–0 demolition of Armenia in Yerevan on Saturday.

The Al Nassr striker, who turns 40 next year, was on target in both halves as Roberto Martínez’s men opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a dominant statement. João Félix also struck twice, while João Cancelo rounded off the scoring in a first-half blitz that left Armenia overwhelmed.

Portugal, buoyed by their UEFA Nations League triumph over Spain in the summer, showed no signs of slowing down. Ronaldo poked home Pedro Neto’s assist for his first, before unleashing a fierce 30-yard drive for his second after half-time.

Cancelo, instrumental all evening, created Félix’s opener before scoring himself from close range on 32 minutes. Félix completed his brace late on to seal Portugal’s five-star night, with the squad also paying tribute to Diogo Jota, whose tragic passing earlier this year was remembered by Cancelo’s celebration.

Armenia carved limited openings, with Tigran Barseghyan testing goalkeeper Diogo Costa, but the gulf in quality was stark. Portugal top Group F and look well placed to claim one of the nine direct tickets to the 2026 finals.
