Abuja Protest April 7 2025: FG Supports Youths’ Right to Protest, Urges Peaceful Conduct

In the wake of the Abuja protest April 7 2025, the Federal Government has declared its support for the right of Nigerian citizens—especially young people—to express their grievances through peaceful protest.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, affirmed the government’s recognition of free expression while urging demonstrators to maintain discipline and avoid violence.

“Everyone has the right to protest. In fact, if I had the time, I would join the protest myself,” Olawande said during a chat with Vanguard. “The young people protesting have valid reasons—they see issues and feel the need to speak up.”

Protest Support with Conditions: “Don’t Destroy National Infrastructure”

While voicing strong support for the Abuja protest April 7 2025, Olawande warned that under no circumstances should public infrastructure or national assets be destroyed during demonstrations.

“Yes, you have the right to speak and be heard—even to stand by the roadside—but do not block roads or turn it into chaos. There must be order. Find peaceful ways to express your concerns,” he stated.

The minister emphasized that protests are a normal part of democratic societies but urged responsibility from both organizers and participants.

FG: Protests Are Valid, but Must Be Lawful

According to the minister, the government is open to listening to protesters and addressing genuine concerns. However, he made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for any acts that could disrupt peace or hinder national development.

“No government is saying you shouldn’t protest—but there must be limits and a sense of responsibility,” Olawande concluded.
