The Thunder beat the Knicks 111-100 on Sunday night, but the bigger story was how they finished. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points and delivered the late burst that broke New York’s resistance. Oklahoma City has now won 14 of its last 15 games and remains first in the Western Conference at 59-16.
SGA closed the door
This was not a one-sided game from start to finish. The Knicks stayed close for most of the night and even led briefly in the third quarter. Then Gilgeous-Alexander took over. Reuters reported that he scored nine key points late as Oklahoma City pulled away and protected home court.

His scoring run also kept growing. Gilgeous-Alexander extended his NBA record streak of games with at least 20 points to 135. That turned a strong night into another marker in an already huge season.
The Thunder had support too
Oklahoma City did not rely on one player alone. Jalen Williams added 22 points in his most productive game since returning from injury. The Thunder also won important moments through pressure and control, especially at the foul line. Reuters said Oklahoma City had 38 free-throw attempts compared with New York’s 17.
That difference mattered because the game stayed tight deep into the night. Once the Thunder gained separation, the Knicks did not have enough answers to swing it back.
Brunson kept New York alive
The Knicks were not poor. Jalen Brunson scored 32 points and gave New York a real chance to steal the game. Karl-Anthony Towns added 15 points and 18 rebounds, while Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges also scored 15 each. But New York could not hold up in the closing stretch and has now lost two straight after a seven-game winning streak.
That is what gives this result extra weight. It was not just a routine win for Oklahoma City. It was a test against an East contender, and the Thunder handled the pressure better when the game tightened.

What the win means
The result strengthens Oklahoma City’s position at the top of the West. The Thunder are 59-16 and still clear of the chasing pack, with the Spurs second at 56-18. That does not settle the conference yet, but it keeps the Thunder in control of the race for the No. 1 seed.
For New York, the concern is not panic but finish. The Knicks stayed competitive for long stretches, but the best teams usually decide these games in the last minutes. On this night, Oklahoma City looked more complete, more composed, and more dangerous when the margin got small.
