Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Defies Police Warning, Insists on Eid Visit to Kogi Central

Senator Vows Peaceful Sallah Despite Security Warnings

Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has confirmed plans to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents, ignoring police advisories and a statewide rally ban issued by the Kogi government.

In a statement shared on her official Facebook page early Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed her commitment to a peaceful Eid celebration, but issued a sharp warning to political leaders she holds responsible for any potential unrest.

“Should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Òdodo, Yahaya Bello, and SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible,” she declared.

Police Urged Her to Cancel – She Refused

The Kogi State Police Command had advised the senator to cancel the event, citing credible threats to public safety. The state government followed up by issuing a ban on all public rallies and gatherings as of Monday.

Authorities said the move was necessary to maintain peace and avoid possible conflict during the festive period.

However, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media team dismissed the directive. They insisted that the senator’s Eid visit would go ahead as planned and maintained that she had no intention of stirring unrest.

Tensions Persist Amid Political Fallout

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s decision comes amid ongoing political tension in Kogi State. The senator, currently suspended, has had a turbulent relationship with Governor Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, and some figures in the Senate leadership.

Observers view her defiance as part of a broader power struggle between opposition voices and entrenched political forces in the state.

Despite the controversies, she remains a popular figure in Kogi Central and has frequently accused the state’s political elite of silencing dissent.

Supporters Stand Behind Her

Ahead of the celebrations, some of her supporters took to social media to affirm their loyalty and encourage her not to back down.

“We stand with Natasha. Kogi Central deserves to see their senator, no matter what threats come,” one user posted.

The senator ended her Facebook message by calling for calm and encouraging citizens to celebrate Sallah peacefully.
