Police confirm one killed, reported INEC worker abducted in Sokoto attack
The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed that one resident was killed and another person abducted when armed attackers struck Girkau village in Kebbe Local Government Area on Thursday, September 10.
Current reporting identifies the man killed as Mallam Samaila Abdullahi Girkau.
The abducted person was identified as Bala A. Ladan Girkau, who is described in reports as an employee of the Independent National Electoral Commission working in Tambuwal.
Police have confirmed the killing and abduction, but IDNN has not independently located a direct INEC statement confirming Ladan Girkau’s employment status.
Police confirm attack after earlier verification gap
Initial reporting on Thursday carried a cautious police position.
Sokoto Police spokesperson DSP Ahmed Rufai said the command was aware of the attack but was still trying to establish whether anyone had been killed or abducted.
Police later confirmed that one person was killed and one person abducted.
The command says personnel have been deployed and investigations are ongoing.

The September 10 attack came days after a separate incident affecting Girkau Ward.
On September 4, Sokoto Police confirmed that five people were killed and three others injured in attacks involving Girkau and neighbouring communities in Kebbe LGA.
Those casualties belong to a different incident and are not part of the September 10 toll.
Repeated attacks in the area nevertheless raise wider questions about security protection for residents and workers operating in vulnerable communities.

The immediate priority is the safe recovery of the abducted man and protection against further attacks.
