Seven Traders Injured in Bukuru Attack as Plateau Police Open Probe

Seven Injured in Plateau Traders Attack as Police Open Investigation

Seven traders were injured after gunmen opened fire on a vehicle along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, police said.

The attack occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, as the vehicle was conveying traders returning from Kara Market in Bukuru.

Plateau State Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said preliminary police investigations established that the vehicle was targeted during the attack.

Police said the seven injured victims had been traced to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks in Jos, where they were receiving treatment.

Investigation ordered

Plateau State Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to take over the case.

The command also said tactical and anti-robbery teams had been deployed to strengthen security around the area, while intelligence gathering had been intensified to identify and arrest those responsible.

Police have not publicly identified the attackers or established a motive.

That distinction matters because the police statement reviewed by IDNN did not establish an ethnic, religious or communal motive.

Separate Mangor attack remains less firmly established

The Bukuru shooting was not the only violent incident reported in Plateau over the same period.

Residents in Mangor, Bokkos Local Government Area, separately reported that gunmen attacked a vigilante duty post at Angwan Tsarki at about 11 p.m., killing two vigilantes and injuring three others.

That account came from residents quoted in published reporting.

As of the time of that report, the Plateau State Police Command had not publicly confirmed the Mangor incident.

The two incidents therefore remain separate.

The seven injuries in Bukuru are police-confirmed.

The reported deaths and injuries in Mangor remain based on resident accounts pending primary security confirmation.

Two incidents raise immediate public-safety concern

The two incidents have renewed immediate public-safety concern in the affected areas.

For Bukuru, the next questions are whether investigators can identify those behind the shooting, establish a motive and determine whether the attack points to any wider threat.

The Mangor report requires a separate test: whether security agencies confirm the attack, the reported casualties and the circumstances surrounding it.

Until those questions are answered, the strongest verified fact remains that seven traders were injured in Bukuru and police have opened an investigation.
