Manchester City go top as Haaland sinks Burnley in tense Turf Moor win

Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League with a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, as Erling Haaland’s early finish proved enough on a night that tightened the title race and ended Burnley’s survival hopes.

Haaland strikes early

City took control quickly. Haaland scored in the fifth minute after Jérémy Doku released him through the middle, and the striker finished calmly to give Guardiola’s side the start they wanted. City created more chances after that, but they failed to turn control into a second goal.

That kept the match alive. Burnley stayed in it and forced City to protect the lead instead of cruising through the closing stages. The visitors still got the job done, but the performance looked more tense than comfortable.

City edge Arsenal at the top

The win moved City above Arsenal at the summit. Both teams now have 70 points and a goal difference of +37, but City lead on goals scored. In a title race this tight, even a one-goal win carries heavy weight.

Guardiola admitted the schedule tested his players after the recent win over Arsenal. He said the quick turnaround made the game demanding, but he still backed his side’s display and focus.

Burnley drop back down

For Burnley, the defeat brought a harsher consequence. The result confirmed their relegation to the Championship after just one season back in the top flight. They fought hard late on, but the loss left them too far behind safety with too few matches left.

So City leave Turf Moor with momentum and first place. Burnley leave with the season’s hardest verdict. One early Haaland goal settled the score, but the bigger impact landed at both ends of the table.
