Rodri Refuses To Rule Out Real Madrid Move As Manchester City Contract Talks Loom

Rodri Leaves Door Open To Real Madrid
Manchester City midfielder Rodri has admitted he would not rule out a future move to Real Madrid, saying “you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.”

The Spain international made the comments as uncertainty grows around his long-term future at City. Rodri is approaching the final year of his current contract and says talks over his next step will happen soon.

City Contract Talks Now On The Horizon
Rodri joined Manchester City from Atlético Madrid in 2019 and has grown into one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players. However, with his deal running down, the 29-year-old has now admitted that a decision point is approaching.

Speaking to Spanish media, Rodri said he would like to return to Spain at some stage of his career. He also made it clear that his Atletico past would not automatically block a switch to Real Madrid.

“There are other players who’ve gone down that path,” Rodri said. “Not immediately, but over time. For me, you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.”

Real Madrid Talk Continues Around Spain Midfielder
Rodri’s comments will likely fuel more speculation around Real Madrid, especially as the Spanish giants continue to search for long-term midfield solutions.

Still, reports in Spain suggest Madrid have not yet made him a priority target for the next transfer window, despite the admiration around his profile and pedigree.

When asked about reported admiration from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, Rodri kept his response cautious.

“I don’t know; they don’t talk to me directly. They’d talk to my agent,” he said.

Rodri Still Central To Guardiola’s Plans
Despite the transfer noise, Rodri remains a major figure at Manchester City.

Since arriving in England, he has won multiple major honours, including four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. He has also worked his way back after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in 2024. Reuters reported that Rodri recently returned to the Spain squad after battling back from that setback.

That return is important for both club and country as Rodri pushes to be fully ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Spain Return Adds To Big Year Ahead
Rodri has already built an impressive international record with Spain and remains one of Luis de la Fuente’s most trusted midfielders.

His latest call-up comes ahead of Spain’s friendlies against Serbia and Egypt, as the European champions continue preparations for the World Cup.

For now, Rodri has not committed either way. But his latest comments make one thing clear: if Manchester City want certainty over his future, contract talks may need to happen soon.
