Sowore vs Police torture claims in IDNN Blackfire v3.0 FULL VERSION with all rollout elements:

By: IDNN News Desk

The Nigeria Police Force has denied allegations by activist and Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore that he was tortured during his recent detention, describing his arrest as lawful and based on serious criminal allegations.

Sowore was held at Force Headquarters in Abuja after honouring an invitation from the IGP Monitoring Unit on Wednesday, before being released on bail within the 48-hour constitutional limit.

In a viral video shared on Facebook, Sowore alleged that police broke his hand and denied him medical care. However, police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi described the claims as “deliberate disinformation aimed at tarnishing the Force’s reputation and leadership.”

“Sowore was arrested based on credible, corroborated allegations involving forgery, cyberstalking, and other infractions. His detention was under a valid remand order and within constitutional safeguards,” Adejobi said.

Police maintained that the bandage seen on Sowore in custody was part of his personal belongings before arrest. They added that two independent medical teams were sent to examine him — on August 7 and August 8 — but he refused both offers.

Adejobi stressed that the Force has a zero-tolerance policy for torture under the Anti-Torture Act 2017, in line with Nigeria’s human rights obligations.

Sowore is expected to appear before a competent court in the coming days to face charges.
