Police Arrest Three Over Osun Highway Robberies, Recover Stolen Vehicle
Police have arrested three men over alleged highway robberies in Osun State and recovered a vehicle said to have been stolen during one of the incidents.
The Lagos State Police Command identified the suspects as Chubuzor Anasihwe, 31; Uchena Steven, 26; and Ejike Ani, 31.
Police Commissioner Fatai Tijani said preliminary investigation linked the men to alleged robbery incidents along the Ife Expressway on August 23 and September 30, 2026.
The suspects have not been convicted, and the allegations remain subject to investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
Police link suspects to two alleged operations
Police said about five vehicles were allegedly taken during the two operations.
The command also said valuables estimated at about ₦50 million were allegedly taken during the incidents.
Separate reporting says a traditional ruler was among the victims and that a crown and other valuables were allegedly taken from him.
The ₦50 million valuation should not be read as applying specifically to the monarch’s property unless police or court records establish that connection.
Police said one Toyota van, with registration BDJ 180 AJ, had been recovered.
Alleged confessions do not establish guilt
Police said the suspects made confessional statements during investigation.
One of the suspects also reportedly gave journalists an account of the alleged operation.
Such statements do not establish guilt.
Any alleged confession or police account remains evidence to be tested through the judicial process if charges are filed.
The men are therefore properly described as suspects, not convicted robbers.
Investigation remains active
Police said efforts were continuing to arrest other alleged members of the group and recover additional vehicles and weapons said to have been used.
The case therefore remains open.
Any charge, arraignment, plea, defence response or further recovery would materially change the status of the investigation and require an update.
What happens next
The next accountability point is whether police file charges and place the evidence before a court.
If the suspects are arraigned, their legal status and any plea or defence response must be reflected in subsequent reporting.
For now, the verified position is limited:
Three men have been arrested, and police say preliminary investigation links them to two alleged highway robbery operations in Osun State. One vehicle has been recovered. No conviction has been established.
