Gombe Court Sentences Two to Death for Armed Robbery, Culpable Homicide

A Gombe State High Court has sentenced two men to death by hanging after convicting them of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.

Justice Muhammad-Auwal Haruna of Gombe State High Court No. 5 delivered the judgment on Wednesday, October 7.

The convicted men, Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami, were prosecuted over the September 18, 2025 attack on Murtala Rabi’u near Pindiga in Akko Local Government Area.

The court found that the prosecution proved the charges against them.

Court convicts pair over robbery and fatal attack

According to the prosecution case accepted by the court, Rabi’u was robbed of a mobile phone and ₦7,400 during the incident and sustained injuries that later resulted in his death.

Those details form part of the evidence presented in court and are not independently witnessed facts established by IDNN.

Justice Haruna convicted the defendants of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide before imposing the death sentence.

The ruling moves the case from allegation to conviction and sentencing.

Appeal status not yet confirmed

The judgment does not mean the legal process is necessarily over.

The convicted men may still have appellate options available to them.

As of October 8, no appeal had been confirmed in the sources reviewed by IDNN.

That should not be read as proof that no appeal has been or will be filed.

Any confirmed appeal, stay, commutation or other post-judgment order would materially change the legal position and require an update.

What happens next

The next legal question is whether the convictions and sentences will be challenged on appeal.

If an appeal is filed, attention will shift to how the appellate court assesses the evidence, procedure and legal basis of the judgment.

For now, the verified position is:

Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami have been convicted by a Gombe State High Court of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide and sentenced to death by hanging. No appeal had been confirmed in the sources reviewed as of October 8.
