Osogbo: Police Investigate Death of Unidentified Woman Found on Church Premises

Police Probe Death of Unidentified Woman Found on Church Premises in Osogbo

Police in Osun State have opened an investigation after the body of an unidentified woman was found on church premises in the Obelewo area of Osogbo.

The Nigeria Police Force said detectives visited the scene after the discovery was reported.

According to the police account, preliminary findings indicated that the woman had been killed and that her left wrist had been severed and removed.

Her identity has not yet been established. Police also say the motive and full circumstances surrounding her death remain unknown.

State Investigators Take Over Case

The State Command Investigation Department has taken over the case.

Investigators are working to identify the woman and determine who was responsible for her death.

Police said the body was deposited at a hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The examination is expected to form part of the effort to establish the cause and circumstances of death.

What Police Have Established

At this stage, police have confirmed the discovery of the womanโ€™s body on the premises.

They have not publicly identified a suspect.

No arrest connected to the case has been announced.

Police have also not established a motive.

Those gaps are important because the circumstances in which the body was found could fuel unsupported speculation.

There is currently no verified basis to describe the death as a ritual killing.

Church Involvement Has Not Been Established

Police have not publicly alleged that the church, its leadership or congregation was involved.

The premises are, at this stage, the reported location where the body was found.

Any stronger conclusion would go beyond what investigators have established.

Investigators Face Key Questions

The immediate task is to establish the womanโ€™s identity.

Investigators must also determine the circumstances surrounding her death, identify whoever was responsible and establish a motive.

Police have not yet publicly answered those questions.

For now, the verified account remains limited: an unidentified woman was found dead in Osogbo, police say her left wrist had been severed and removed, and investigators are working to establish her identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.
