Morocco Coach Ouahbi Backs CAF Decision to Strip Senegal of AFCON Title

Morocco Backs CAF Decision
Morocco’s head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has supported CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title. He described the ruling as “well-deserved” and congratulated the Moroccan team and federation.

Ouahbi Reacts to Verdict
Ouahbi spoke during the announcement of his squad for friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay. He said the decision had lifted the mood across the country.
“This decision pleases everyone,” he said. He also added that his focus remains on building a competitive team for the World Cup.

How the Controversy Started
CAF overturned Senegal’s 1-0 win in the final played in Rabat. The decision followed a brief walk-off by Senegal players after a late penalty call for Morocco.
Although Sadio Mane led the team back, CAF ruled that the walk-off breached the rules. The body later awarded Morocco a 3-0 win.

Senegal Moves to Challenge Decision
Senegal have rejected the ruling and called it unjust. The football federation has instructed its lawyers to file an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
This move shifts the matter into a legal phase that could change the outcome.

Earlier Disciplinary Actions
CAF had earlier fined both teams for unsporting conduct. However, it did not change the match result at that time. The latest decision has now reopened the controversy.

Focus Turns to What Comes Next
The final outcome now depends on the CAS ruling. Both sides are holding firm positions.
Meanwhile, Morocco are preparing for the World Cup. They will compete in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti.
