Kumuyi Rejects Pressure on Deeper Life Succession, Says God Will Choose

By: IDNN News Desk

Deeper Life Bible Church General Superintendent Pastor William Kumuyi has rejected calls within the church to name his successor, declaring that the decision rests solely with God.

Speaking during a Bible study session — shared online — the 83-year-old cleric addressed what he described as “subtle agitations” about his eventual departure.

KUMUYI: GOD WILL CHOOSE SUCCESSOR
Pastor William Kumuyi addresses Deeper Life members, rejecting pressure to name a successor and insisting God will choose.

“Are you tired of me?” Kumuyi asked, drawing a resounding “Nooo” from the congregation.

He singled out a young preacher who recently said, “there is no leadership without a successor,” noting the remark was repeated twice during a teaching session.

“God will give a successor at His own time,” Kumuyi stressed. “I reject any member, worker, choir member, or security person who tries to control me — even my wife. I am the head of the home.”

Kumuyi warned against undermining his mission, stating that such actions would only make him more resolute.

He explained that he has created opportunities for gifted individuals to preach but insists succession planning is a divine prerogative.

“If God gives you a pastor still active at this age, running everywhere to preach, and you are asking for a successor, it makes me think you are tired of seeing me,” he said.

Kumuyi concluded that when the time comes, God will choose “a man after His own heart” to lead the church.
