Imo community seeks security patrols, road repairs over attacks and worsening access
Residents of Nsokpo community in Ogbaku, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, have appealed to the state government for stronger security patrols and repairs to two roads they say have deteriorated badly and are affecting daily life.
The appeal was made by the Nsokpo Dynamic Association, which said residents have faced repeated kidnappings and armed attacks in recent months while struggling with poor road access linking the community to neighbouring towns and markets.
The association specifically identified the Nsokpo–Ifakala–Nwaorieubi Road and the Nsokpo–Lawa–Ohi Road as routes requiring urgent attention.
Those claims remain community accounts. IDNN has not independently established the full pattern of reported attacks or the present engineering condition of the two roads.
Residents link insecurity to shrinking daily activity
According to the association, fear of attacks has changed how residents move, farm and trade.
It said some residents now avoid certain routes and reduce movement at night, while traders close earlier because of security concerns.
The group also said farmers face difficulty moving produce and that transport costs have risen because of poor road conditions.
Residents say poor access compounds their security concerns and makes movement more difficult.
Community seeks government intervention
The association called on Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration to increase security patrols around Nsokpo and surrounding communities and to rehabilitate the two roads.
It also asked security agencies to respond more aggressively to reports of attacks and kidnappings.
The association attributed some reported attacks to suspected herders, but that attribution has not been independently verified and should not be treated as established fact.
Independent incident tracking has recorded kidnapping-related and other violent incidents elsewhere in Mbaitoli LGA, but those records do not by themselves verify every claim made about Nsokpo.
The accountability question
The immediate test is whether police and state authorities will respond directly to the community’s claims.
At the time of publication, IDNN had not obtained a police response specific to the reported incidents in Nsokpo and had not received an Imo State Government or works-authority response on the condition or maintenance status of the two roads.
Those responses matter because repeated public complaints can only be properly assessed against incident records, road-maintenance history and evidence of what government agencies have already done.
For residents, the issue is practical: whether they can move safely, reach farms and markets, and rely on roads and security systems that function when needed.
The next development to watch is whether police provide incident data for Nsokpo and whether the state government gives a timetable or status update on the two roads named by the community.
