NRC says Abuja–Kaduna trains unaffected after fire at Idu Station
The Nigerian Railway Corporation says Abuja–Kaduna train services are continuing normally after a fire in an electrical room at Idu Train Station in Abuja was brought under control.
The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, September 9, in the station’s low-voltage electrical room.
According to the NRC, the fire was detected at about 8:30 p.m. and was contained by maintenance personnel at the station.
A preliminary inspection found damage to some electrical supply cables connected to control panels.
The corporation said the station’s alternative solar power system was not affected.
Train services remain operational, NRC says
The NRC said the incident had no effect on Abuja–Kaduna Train Service operations and that scheduled services would continue as normal.
That remains an official operational claim from the corporation.
IDNN has not independently verified each scheduled service after the incident.
The corporation also said temporary power had been restored to the station’s lifts and escalators, with 28 of 29 facilities operational at the time of its update.
Technical assessment still ongoing
Although the NRC described the incident as resulting from an electrical fault, it also said its technical team was carrying out further assessment to determine the underlying cause and permanently restore affected installations.
That means the final technical explanation remains unresolved.
The strongest verified position is that the fire occurred in the low-voltage electrical room, damaged some electrical supply cables and was contained without the NRC reporting any disruption to train services.
The next operational check is whether scheduled services continue without interruption and whether the corporation’s technical assessment identifies the underlying fault and any additional safety measures required.
