Troops Rescue Six FUDMA Students, Driver After Katsina Abduction
Troops have rescued six female students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma and their commercial driver after they were abducted during an attack on a vehicle travelling through Katsina State.
The military said troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, responded to a distress call on the evening of September 21 after armed assailants attacked the commercial vehicle along the Daye–Malumfashi Road in Danmusa Local Government Area.
According to the military account, the intervention forced the abductors to abandon the seven captives and flee.
The students and driver were subsequently rescued.
Lt. Col. Olamiyi Osoba, Deputy Director of Information for Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said all seven were rescued unhurt and taken through preliminary security profiling and medical evaluation before being handed over to designated officials for reunion with their families and university authorities.
Current reporting does not indicate that any of the abductors was arrested during the rescue operation.
Attack on Kaduna–Katsina journey
The victims had been travelling in a commercial vehicle from Kaduna toward Katsina when the attack occurred.
The military has not publicly provided a detailed account of how long the victims were held before troops reached the area, and current reporting does not establish the identities or number of the attackers.
