Anthony Joshua Resumes Full Training for Summer Return After Fatal Crash

Recovery Following Tragic Incident
Anthony Joshua has resumed full training as he plans his return to the ring in summer 2026. The 34-year-old champion, who last fought in December 2025, faced a devastating setback when a fatal crash in Nigeria took the lives of his trainer Kevin Ayodele and therapist Sina Ghami. Joshua was unscathed physically but took time off to recover emotionally.

Gradual Return to Training
Joshua started by easing back into training at Finchley Amateur Boxing Club, where his journey began. He rejoined coach Iegor Golub, who had worked with him during his win over Jake Paul. Golub also works with Oleksandr Usyk and joined Joshua after he parted ways with Ben Davison following his defeat to Daniel Dubois.

Plans for a July Fight
Promoter Eddie Hearn says Joshua is now ready for his full return to the ring. “He is physically and mentally ready,” Hearn said. Joshua’s comeback fight is planned for July, after an earlier March date in Saudi Arabia was canceled due to the crash. The highly anticipated fight against Tyson Fury may follow later in 2026.

A Pivotal Year for Boxing
The second half of 2026 promises to be a thrilling period for boxing. Joshua’s return and potential fight with Fury will undoubtedly dominate headlines, marking a pivotal year for heavyweight boxing.
