Two killed, two seriously injured in Lagos road crash

Two people died and two others were seriously injured in a road crash involving a commercial bus and a pickup van on the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

LASTMA said its operatives responded to the scene, coordinated rescue efforts and secured the area.

The agency identified the vehicles as a Suzuki commercial bus and a pickup van.

The injured victims — a man and a woman — were taken to General Hospital, Odan, for treatment.

The bodies of the two people who died were handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

Driver, vehicles handed over to police

LASTMA said the vehicles and the driver of the Suzuki bus were handed over to officers of the Yaba Police Division after rescue and recovery operations.

The police handover does not establish that the driver was responsible for the crash.

The available account does not say that he has been charged with an offence.

Cause remains unknown

LASTMA did not disclose what caused the collision.

There is currently no verified basis to blame speeding, dangerous driving, mechanical failure, road conditions or any other specific factor.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the families of those who died and urged motorists to obey traffic rules, speed limits and vehicle-safety requirements.

The next key development is whether police or traffic authorities establish how the collision happened.

For now, the verified position is clear: two people died, two others were seriously injured, emergency responders attended the scene, and the cause remains unknown.
