Two killed, seven injured in Plateau crash, FRSC attributes cause to speeding
Two people died and seven others were injured in a road crash involving a bus, a commercial tricycle and a saloon car at Sabon Barki in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The crash occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on Sunday along the Bukuru Express Road, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Plateau FRSC spokesman Yakubu Longsan said two victims died at the scene while seven injured people were taken to Porter’s Orthopaedic Hospital in Jos for treatment.
FRSC attributes crash to speeding
Longsan attributed the crash to overspeeding and reckless driving.
That remains the FRSC’s assessment of the cause. IDNN has not independently reconstructed the circumstances of the collision.
The crash involved a bus, a commercial tricycle, commonly called Keke NAPEP, and a saloon car.
FRSC said the tricycle caught fire after the collision.
Bus driver being traced
FRSC also said the bus driver fled the scene and that efforts were underway to trace him.
The driver’s reported departure from the scene does not establish criminal responsibility for the deaths or injuries.
No charge or judicial finding against the driver has been established in the verified record.
Earlier injury figure superseded
An earlier eyewitness-based report put the number of injured people at three and said FRSC had not yet been reached for comment when it was filed.
That earlier count is superseded in this report by the later FRSC account, which put the number of injured people at seven.
The discrepancy remains noted because the two reports were filed at different stages of the incident response.
FRSC urged motorists to avoid overspeeding and reckless driving and advised passengers to speak up when they observe unsafe driving.
The next material development is whether authorities locate the bus driver and whether any further investigation changes the FRSC’s initial assessment of how the crash occurred.
For now, the verified position is that two people died and seven were injured, while FRSC attributes the crash to overspeeding and reckless driving.
