Madrid, playing without key players such as Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo, struck in the 20th minute when Thibaut Courtois’ long clearance caught City’s defense off guard. Valverde raced through, rounded goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, and finished calmly. Seven minutes later, Valverde doubled Madrid’s lead with a precise shot past Donnarumma after being set up by Vinícius Júnior. Valverde completed his hat-trick just before halftime with a brilliant volley, flicking a pass from Brahim Díaz over defender Marc Guéhi and volleying it into the net.

City had opportunities in the second half but struggled to break down Madrid’s defense. Despite a penalty opportunity for Vinícius Júnior, which was saved by Donnarumma, Madrid held firm and sealed a dominant 3-0 victory.
