Police in Imo State have arrested a 26-year-old man following allegations that he pushed a 17-year-old girl from a two-storey building in Owerri.

The ICIR reported that police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the arrest and said officers intervened after a crowd attempted to attack the suspect.

The alleged incident occurred on Sunday, November 1, at a building on Mbonu Ejike Street.

Teenager taken to hospital

Police described the teenager as critically injured in the November 2 reporting. IDNN has not obtained a subsequent medical update.

Her name is being withheld because she is a minor.

Investigation ongoing

Police said the suspect was in custody while investigators sought to establish the circumstances. The allegation has not been determined by a court.

The command urged residents to avoid mob violence and refrain from circulating unverified claims, according to PUNCH’s account of the police statement.

IDNN has not obtained the teenager’s account, a response from the suspect or his representative, or an independently verified account of the events preceding her injuries.
