Police arrest six in Osogbo raids, allege cult links
Osun State Police Command says it arrested six people during intelligence-led raids on suspected criminal hideouts in Osogbo.
Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said preliminary investigation allegedly linked the suspects to the Eiye Confraternity and to criminal activity around Mackay Junction.
The allegation remains a police claim. It does not establish that those arrested are cult members or guilty of any offence.
Police allege cult links
According to the command, the arrests followed operations targeting suspected criminal activity in parts of Osogbo.
Police said preliminary findings linked the six suspects to the Eiye Confraternity.
That claim has not been tested in court and remains an allegation.
Officers recover suspected exhibits
Police said officers recovered charms, substances described by the command as illicit drugs and cash suspected to be proceeds of drug activity.
IDNN has not independently reviewed forensic results confirming the nature of the substances.
There is also no independent evidence reviewed by IDNN establishing that the recovered cash came from criminal activity.
Police say suspects charged to court
The command said the six suspects had been charged to court.
IDNN has not independently reviewed the charge sheet or court record.
The available material therefore does not establish the precise charges, plea status or whether the suspects have appeared before a judicial officer.
Being arrested or charged does not amount to a conviction.
Court process becomes next test
The next stage is the court process and the evidence supporting the allegations.
That includes the offences formally charged, the evidentiary status of the recovered items and any response presented by the accused.
For residents, the case will now turn on whether the allegations arising from the Osogbo raids can be supported by evidence before the court.
