Police arrest two in Bauchi over suspected Indian hemp
Bauchi State Police Command says it arrested two men in Duguri over the alleged possession and supply of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said the arrests followed a routine patrol at about 2:10am on October 12.
According to the command, officers allegedly found one of the men with the suspected substance.
Police later arrested a second man whom they described as his alleged supplier.
The police account does not establish that either suspect is guilty of a drug offence.
Police recover suspected substance
Police said the dry leaves were recovered as an exhibit during the operation.
The command described the material as suspected Indian hemp.
IDNN has not independently reviewed any laboratory or forensic result confirming that the recovered substance is cannabis or another prohibited drug.
Investigation continues
Police said investigation into the case was continuing and that the suspects were expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The reviewed record does not establish that either suspect has already been charged or arraigned.
The next legal questions are whether the substance is formally tested, what offences are eventually charged and whether the suspects are brought before a court.
Until guilt is established through the judicial process, the two men remain suspects.
Separate Bauchi case excluded
This report concerns only the Duguri drug-arrest operation.
A separate child-protection case disclosed in the same police statement involves a different incident, location and accused person.
There is no verified evidentiary connection between the two cases.
