Private School Owners Seek Pause in 2026/27 University Admissions Over Result Delays
The Owners of Private Schools Association of Nigeria has asked the Federal Government and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to pause ongoing university admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session.
OPSAN says some candidates may be disadvantaged because they are still awaiting relevant O’Level results.
The call is a proposal from the association. It is not a government directive, and no nationwide suspension of admissions has been announced.
OPSAN raises access concern
OPSAN National President Prof. Uzochukwu Solomon Nwanonyuo said proceeding with admissions while some candidates are still awaiting results could reduce their chances of securing places.
The association wants the Minister of Education to intervene and JAMB to pause the admission process.
It also called for universities to suspend Post-UTME and related admission activity until affected candidates can present their results.
OPSAN describes the issue as one of fairness and equal access.
That remains the association’s position. It is not an established finding by the Federal Government, JAMB or the National Universities Commission.
NABTEB claim needs correction
One part of OPSAN’s statement conflicts with the examination body’s official record.
The association referred to NABTEB results as still pending.
But NABTEB says it released its 2026 June/July National Business Certificate and National Technical Certificate results on September 2, 2026.
IDNN therefore cannot report that those NABTEB results remain generally unreleased.
If individual candidates are still unable to access particular results, that would need separate evidence.
JAMB admission cycle remains active
JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System shows that the 2026/2027 admission cycle is under way.
A dashboard snapshot reviewed by IDNN recorded 262,522 entries across several stages, including recommendation, processing, candidate acceptance and accepted admission.
The figure is not a total of completed admissions because it combines different stages of the process.
There is also no evidence in the material reviewed that JAMB has accepted OPSAN’s request.
How many candidates are affected?
That remains unclear.
The material reviewed does not establish a verified nationwide number of candidates who are unable to participate fully because relevant results are still unavailable.
It also does not establish exactly which result categories remain outstanding for affected candidates.
Those details matter because OPSAN’s argument depends on whether result delays are actually causing candidates to lose admission opportunities.
What authorities need to clarify
JAMB and the Federal Ministry of Education can clarify whether candidates awaiting valid O’Level results are being disadvantaged and what safeguards, if any, exist for them.
The relevant examination bodies can also state which results have been released, which remain outstanding and whether candidates face individual access problems.
For candidates and parents, the immediate position is simple:
