Oke-Afa Bridge Diversion Takes Effect Today for Three-Week Rehabilitation
Motorists using the Isolo–Ejigbo corridor in Lagos face a three-week traffic diversion from Friday as rehabilitation work on Oke-Afa Bridge enters its scheduled first phase.
The Lagos State Government says the traffic arrangement will run from August 28 to September 18, with work divided into two phases to keep vehicles moving while sections of the bridge are rehabilitated.
For the first phase, running from August 28 to September 11, motorists travelling from Isolo towards Ejigbo will be diverted onto the Isolo-bound carriageway from Pako Roundabout.
Traffic will move in both directions on that carriageway before Ejigbo-bound motorists rejoin the main road at Mobil Filling Station.
Drivers travelling from Ejigbo towards Isolo are expected to continue through the corridor but will share the carriageway with diverted traffic between Mobil Filling Station and Pako Roundabout.
The arrangement is expected to create pressure for commuters using the busy Isolo–Ejigbo route, particularly during peak periods when opposing traffic will temporarily share one carriageway.
Second Phase Starts September 12
From September 12 to September 18, the traffic arrangement will switch.
Motorists travelling from Ejigbo towards Isolo will be diverted onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway from Mobil Filling Station, with vehicles moving in both directions before reconnecting with the normal route at Pako Roundabout.
Traffic travelling from Isolo will continue to move but will share the available carriageway through the affected section.
Lagos Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the phased arrangement forms part of the traffic-management plan for the rehabilitation.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority is expected to deploy personnel along the corridor to manage movement and reduce congestion.
Authorities also said an emergency tow vehicle would be stationed within the axis throughout the rehabilitation period to remove broken-down vehicles quickly.
Federal Works Project
The Lagos transportation notice says the rehabilitation is being undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller in Lagos, with Messrs. Strabic Construction Limited identified as the contractor.
That makes the three-week timetable an immediate delivery test as well as a commuter issue.
The traffic disruption has a defined start and scheduled end date, giving motorists a clear benchmark against which the September 18 completion window can be measured.
For commuters using Oke-Afa Bridge, the practical instruction is straightforward.
During the first phase, Isolo-to-Ejigbo traffic should expect diversion from Pako Roundabout and two-way movement on the available carriageway until Mobil Filling Station.
Motorists have been urged to cooperate with traffic officials and allow additional journey time while the temporary arrangement remains in force.
The first phase is scheduled to continue until September 11 before traffic management switches direction for the final week of work.
