Community leaders in Ogoni, Rivers State, have rejected President Bola Tinubu’s push to resume oil production in their territories.
In a joint statement, Ogoni groups said past environmental devastation and the memory of the Ogoni 13 executions remain unresolved. They demanded environmental clean-up, justice, and equity before any oil resumption.

The 1995 execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and 12 others turned Ogoni into a global symbol of resistance against oil exploitation. Successive governments pledged clean-ups and compensation, but progress has been slow.
