NFF inaugurates electoral committees ahead of September 2026 elections
The Nigeria Football Federation will on Thursday inaugurate its Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee. The ceremony will take place at the federation’s secretariat in Abuja. NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau will preside over it.
The move formally starts preparations for the federation’s Executive Committee elections. Those elections are scheduled for September 26, 2026, in Lafia.
Committees begin formal work
The inauguration marks an important administrative step for Nigerian football. It moves the election process from planning into active supervision.
The two committees were approved during the NFF Extraordinary General Assembly in Yenagoa on March 23, 2026. Their inauguration now gives them the authority to begin work under the federation’s statutes and electoral code.
Structure of the committees
A total of 12 officials were appointed across both bodies.
The Electoral Committee will have seven members. That includes a chairperson, vice chairperson, three members, and two alternates.
The Electoral Appeals Committee will have five officials. It will consist of three full members and two alternates.
What the Electoral Committee will do
The Electoral Committee is expected to supervise the entire election process. Its duties cover the organisation, conduct, and oversight of the vote during the NFF Congress.
Its role will be to ensure the process follows the NFF Electoral Code. That means the committee will be central to questions of fairness, transparency, and compliance.
Officials appointed
The 12 officials approved for the two committees are Barr Matthew Burkala, SAN; Hon. Justice Aneke; Emmanuel Obafemi; Babagoni Grema; Barr Benjamin Sak; Mallam Musa; Prof. Abdulmalik Awwal; Arinze Anughere, Esq; Hon. Akogun Omole; Abayomi Omoyimi, Esq; Ayibaye Temedie, Esq; and Ayi Ukpayam.
Road to Lafia
For the NFF, this is more than a routine ceremony. It is the formal opening of the process that will lead to the federation’s next elections in Lafia.
Attention will now shift to how the committees carry out their duties in the months ahead. Their work is likely to shape confidence in the credibility of the election process.
