Kano Timber-Market Fire Affects 110 Structures, Fire Service Says
The reported damage covers 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures at Kofar Ruwa Timber Market. The cause and financial losses remain unverified.
A fire at Kofar Ruwa Timber Market in Kano affected 110 structures on Saturday, October 31, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
Radio Nigeria reported that the service’s spokesperson, Kabiru Isah Jafaru, identified the affected properties as 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures across sections of the market.
Firefighters Contain the Blaze
The service received a distress call from a timber dealer at about 7:39am, prompting the deployment of crews from several stations within Kano metropolis.
According to the service’s account, the flames had spread across parts of the market before firefighters arrived. Crews subsequently brought the blaze under control and prevented further spread.
The service’s breakdown covers buildings and temporary structures, rather than a verified count of individual shops or affected traders.
Cause and Losses Await Assessment
The cause of the fire and the value of goods and property lost had not been established in the reports reviewed.
Trust Radio said no casualties had been reported when it published its account on November 1. IDNN has not independently confirmed an updated injury or fatality assessment.
Fire Service Urges Precautions
The service urged traders and business owners to adopt fire-prevention measures, particularly during the harmattan season, when dry conditions can increase fire risks.
The cause of the outbreak and the financial losses suffered by traders had not been established in the reports available at publication.
